Jesus lived from the pleasure of the Father, towards the pleasure of the Father, but never for the pleasure of the Father.

True sonship is first birthed from the realization that you are loved by God regardless of what you do, but it doesn’t stay there. Rather, it is brought to maturity when you also take on the responsibility and desire to live in a way that will please God.

You don’t yearn and work for His pleasure, because you already have it - doing so would be religion. Yet, you do not use God’s love that He initiated as a license to do whatever you want - doing so would be rebellion.

God seeks to bring you to full maturity, but that does not happen without your willful obedience and working towards His pleasure. In the Bible it says that it pleased the Father for Jesus to be bruised and crucified - and Jesus lived under that understanding of who He was (God’s Son in whom He was well-pleased), and also what He must do (not his own will, but the Father’s).

It’s about being both compelled, yet constrained by the Father’s love.

You will always feel lost and unfruitful without both the Father’s love and the Father’s will actualized in your life. Seeking His will without His love will make your life feel like a burdensome task. It is only with a revelation of His love and a submission to His will (which includes submitting to the will of a spiritual father), knowing that it pleases Him that will make you life full and abundant!

Many wonder how can they know God’s will for their lives, but continue to ignore the will of those whom God has appointed over them. But God is not mocked. He knows that if you can’t be faithful to obey your pastor, then you won’t be faithful enough to steward His passions.

It’s all about the heart. Is it one that seeks its own pleasure, or one that gives out of already being pleased?
